Travel Itinerary

Detailed Itinerary – Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Humantay Lagoon

Your adventure begins early as we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and drive to Mollepata, where a hearty breakfast awaits. After a short briefing, we start trekking toward Soraypampa, surrounded by towering peaks and fresh mountain air.

In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Humantay Lagoon, one of the most beautiful spots in the Andes, famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. The day ends with a delicious dinner and a peaceful night at camp.

Difficulty: Moderate | Max altitude: 3,900 m

Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Huayracmachay

Today we face the most challenging and rewarding section of the trek — the climb to the Salkantay Pass (4,650 m). The path winds through rocky slopes and breathtaking glaciers until you reach the top, where the spirit of the Andes greets you with 360° views of sacred peaks.

After resting and taking photos, we descend to Huayracmachay, where the scenery transforms from alpine landscapes to cloud forest. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Difficulty: Challenging | Distance: 20 km (12.4 miles)

Day 3: Huayracmachay – La Playa – Santa Teresa

The trail continues downhill through changing ecosystems — from highland meadows to subtropical jungle. Along the way, you’ll pass small villages and coffee plantations.

By afternoon, we reach Santa Teresa (La Playa), a warm and lively valley perfect for relaxing in natural hot springs. Tonight, enjoy a cozy lodge stay and a well-deserved dinner.

Difficulty: Moderate | Distance: 16 km (10 miles)

Day 4: Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes

After breakfast, we’ll walk (or drive optionally) to Hidroelectrica and follow the scenic railway to Aguas Calientes, the charming town at the foot of Machu Picchu.

This tranquil hike through the jungle is filled with birdsong and the scent of orchids. Upon arrival, check into your hotel, enjoy lunch, and prepare for the big day ahead.

Difficulty: Easy | Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)

Day 5: Machu Picchu – Cusco

We rise before sunrise to reach Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas. During a guided tour (2–3 hours), you’ll explore the temples, terraces, and sacred plazas while learning about the site’s mysterious history.

Afterward, enjoy free time to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional). In the afternoon, take the train back to Cusco — heart full, soul renewed.

Difficulty: Moderate | Highlight: Sunrise over Machu Picchu
