Your high-Andes expedition begins at 4:00am with pick-up directly from your hotel in Cusco. We drive for two hours to the village of Pitumarca for last-minute supplies, then continue one hour more to the Q’esuyuno community. The route offers striking views of deep canyons, ancient Inca agricultural terraces, dramatic mountain formations, and remote Andean settlements.
Upon arrival, we meet our horsemen and prepare for the trek. The hike starts gradually as we ascend toward the Kayrawiry community, where a freshly prepared lunch awaits. After a short rest, we continue toward the iconic Rainbow Mountain. Once at the viewpoint, you will have ample time to appreciate its vibrant mineral colors and panoramic landscapes. On clear days, it is possible to spot vicuñas, condors, and the shimmering glacial lakes surrounding the region.
After exploring the area, we descend back to Kayrawiry, where camp will be set up and waiting. Enjoy afternoon tea followed by a hearty dinner.
Wake up to a warm cup of coca tea and stunning sunrise views over the Andean peaks. After breakfast, we begin our return hike to Q’esuyuno before starting a challenging 2-hour ascent to Condor Pass (5,100 m / 16,732 ft). From the top, you are rewarded with sweeping views of crystalline blue lakes and the imposing Ausangate Glacier towering above.
Avalanches are occasionally visible from a safe distance, sending cascades of ice into the lakes—an unforgettable spectacle. Descend to the lunch spot for a restorative break, then continue trekking for approximately 3 hours to Ausangate Lake. Upon arrival, enjoy our signature “happy hour” with hot beverages before settling into camp for the night.
After a nourishing breakfast, we begin a spectacular day of trekking along the base of the Ausangate Glacier. The route provides continuous views of hanging glaciers, high-altitude lakes, cascading waterfalls, and abundant wildlife including llamas, alpacas, wild vicuñas, and soaring condors.
A steady 3-hour ascent leads us to Abra Campo Pass (5,000 m / 16,404 ft), a superb viewpoint of the surrounding valleys and glacial formations. In certain months, a layer of snow covers the trail, creating an even more dramatic setting. After enjoying the scenery and photographing the landscape, we descend gradually for 1.5 hours to our lunch site, followed by another 2.5 hours of hiking to reach the Qampa campsite.
After three days of trekking and acclimatization, we begin the final stretch of the adventure. Following breakfast, we hike for approximately one hour to reach the glacier base and continue to a scenic high point that offers panoramic views of the Vilcanota Mountain Range. After enjoying the summit, we descend for lunch.
In the afternoon, we continue toward Qomer Lake and finally reach the community of Pacchanta after a 5-hour hike. Here, you may enjoy the region’s natural hot springs—an excellent way to relax your muscles after the trek. Later, we board our private transportation back to Cusco.
